The Romantic La Posada del Rio Sonora is located on the historic plaza of Banamichi in the high Sonora desert in north central old Mexico.

Surrounded by majestic desert mountain ridges, Banamichi is a community that time forgot. The locals say that Banamichi has forgotten time. Everything in Banamichi is slow and peaceful.

There is no crime, begging or tourism (not one t-shirt shop). The streets are clean, the church bells still ring, a large variety of bird species sing in the plaza, and laughter can be heard throughout the village.

The 1400 residents of Banamichi welcome the small number of foreigners that come to La Posada del Rio Sonora.

The restoration of La Posada del Rio Sonora began in 2001 and was completed in 2006. The original building is more than 200 years old and is directly located on the central plaza.

The Hotel was built for the socially and environmentally conscious guest using local materials and built by local tradesmen. La Posada del Rio Sonora greatly contributes to the local economy and donates a percentage of its time and profits to community-based non profit organizations.
